पापनाशिनी, पुण्यप्रदायिनी गंगा
14 मई 2024 मंगलवार को श्री गंगा सप्तमी (गंगा जयंती) है ।
जैसे मंत्रों में ॐकार, स्त्रियों में गौरीदेवी, तत्त्वों में गुरुतत्त्व और विद्याओं में आत्मविद्या उत्तम है, उसी प्रकार सम्पूर्ण तीर्थों में गंगातीर्थ विशेष माना गया है। गंगाजी की वंदना करते हुए कहा गया हैः

जिस दिन गंगा जी की उत्पत्ति हुई वह दिन गंगा जयंती (वैशाख शुक्ल सप्तमी) और जिस दिन गंगाजी पृथ्वी पर अवतरित हुई वह दिन ‘गंगा दशहरा’ (ज्येष्ठ शुक्ल दशमी) के नाम से जाना जाता है। इन दिनों में गंगा जी में गोता मारने से विशेष सात्त्विकता, प्रसन्नता और पुण्यलाभ होता है। वैशाख, कार्तिक और माघ मास की पूर्णिमा, माघ मास की अमावस्या तथा कृष्णपक्षीय अष्टमी तिथि को गंगास्नान करने से भी विशेष पुण्यलाभ होता है।
