गंगा जयंती महत्व
14 मई 2024 मंगलवार को श्री गंगा सप्तमी (गंगा जयंती) है ।
गंगा जयंती हिन्दुओं का एक प्रमुख पर्व है | वैशाख शुक्ल सप्तमी के पावन दिन गंगा जी की उत्पत्ति हुई इस कारण इस पवित्र तिथि को गंगा जयंती के रूप में मनाया जाता है |
गंगा जयंती के शुभ अवसर पर गंगा जी में स्नान करने से सात्त्विकता और पुण्यलाभ प्राप्त होता है | वैशाख शुक्ल सप्तमी का दिन संपूर्ण भारत में श्रद्धा व उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है यह तिथि पवित्र नदी गंगा के पृथ्वी पर आने का पर्व है गंगा जयंती | स्कन्दपुराण, वाल्मीकि रामायण आदि ग्रंथों में गंगा जन्म की कथाi वर्णित है |
भारत की अनेक धार्मिक अवधारणाओं में गंगा नदी को देवी के रूप में दर्शाया गया है | अनेक पवित्र तीर्थस्थल गंगा नदी के किनारे पर बसे हुये हैं | गंगा नदी को भारत की पवित्र नदियों में सबसे पवित्र नदी के रूप में पूजा जाता है | मान्यता है कि गंगा में स्नान करने से मनुष्य के समस्त पापों का नाश होता है | लोग गंगा के किनारे ही प्राण विसर्जन या अंतिम संस्कार की इच्छा रखते हैं तथा मृत्यु पश्चात गंगा में अपनी राख विसर्जित करना मोक्ष प्राप्ति के लिये आवश्यक समझते हैं | लोग गंगा घाटों पर पूजा अर्चना करते हैं और ध्यान लगाते हैं |
गंगाजल को पवित्र समझा जाता है तथा समस्त संस्कारों में उसका होना आवश्यक माना गया है | गंगाजल को अमृत समान माना गया है | अनेक पर्वों और उत्सवों का गंगा से सीधा संबंध है मकर संक्राति, कुंभ और गंगा दशहरा के समय गंगा में स्नान, दान एवं दर्शन करना महत्त्वपूर्ण समझा माना गया है | गंगा पर अनेक प्रसिद्ध मेलों का आयोजन किया जाता है | गंगा तीर्थ स्थल सम्पूर्ण भारत में सांस्कृतिक एकता स्थापित करता है गंगा जी के अनेक भक्ति ग्रंथ लिखे गए हैं जिनमें श्रीगंगासहस्रनामस्तोत्रम एवं गंगा आरती बहुत लोकप्रिय हैं |
गंगा जन्म कथा
गंगा नदी हिंदुओं की आस्था का केंद्र है और अनेक धर्म ग्रंथों में गंगा के महत्व का वर्णन प्राप्त होता है | गंगा नदी के साथ अनेक पौराणिक कथाएँ जुड़ी हुई हैं जो गंगा जी के संपूर्ण अर्थ को परिभाषित करने में सहायक है | इसमें एक कथा अनुसार गंगा का जन्म भगवान विष्णु के पैर के पसीनों की बूँदों से हुआ गंगा के जन्म की कथाओं में अतिरिक्त अन्य कथाएँ भी हैं | जिसके अनुसार गंगा का जन्म ब्रह्मदेव के कमंडल से हुआ |
एक मान्यता है कि वामन रूप में राक्षस बलि से संसार को मुक्त कराने के बाद ब्रह्मदेव ने भगवान विष्णु के चरण धोए औरk इस जल को अपने कमंडल में भर लिया और एक अन्य कथा अनुसार जब भगवान शिव ने नारद मुनि, ब्रह्मदेव तथा भगवान विष्णु के समक्ष गाना गाया तो इस संगीत के प्रभाव से भगवान विष्णु का पसीना बहकर निकलने लगा जिसे ब्रह्मा जी ने उसे अपने कमंडल में भर लिया और इसी कमंडल के जल से गंगा का जन्म हुआ था |
गंगा जयंती महत्व
शास्त्रों के अनुसार बैशाख मास शुक्ल पक्ष की सप्तमी तिथि को ही गंगा स्वर्ग लोक से शिव शंकर की जटाओं में पहुंची थी इसलिए इस दिन को गंगा जयंती और गंगा सप्तमी के रूप में मनाया जाता है | जिस दिन गंगा जी की उत्पत्ति हुई वह दिन गंगा जयंती (वैशाख शुक्ल सप्तमी) और जिस दिन गंगाजी पृथ्वी पर अवतरित हुई वह दिन ‘गंगा दशहरा’ (ज्येष्ठ शुक्ल दशमी) के नाम से जाना जाता है इस दिन मां गंगा का पूजन किया जाता है | गंगा जयंती के दिन गंगा पूजन एवं स्नान से रिद्धि-सिद्धि, यश-सम्मान की प्राप्ति होती है तथा समस्त पापों का क्षय होता है| मान्यता है कि इस दिन गंगा पूजन से मांगलिक दोष से ग्रसित जातकों को विशेष लाभ प्राप्त होता है| विधिविधान से गंगा पूजन करना अमोघ फलदायक होता है |
पुराणों के अनुसार गंगा विष्णु के अँगूठे से निकली हैं, जिसका पृथ्वी पर अवतरण भगीरथ के प्रयास से कपिल मुनि के शाप द्वारा भस्मीकृत हुए राजा सगर के 60,000 पुत्रों की अस्थियों का उद्धार करने के लिए हुआ था तब उनके उद्धार के लिए राजा सगर के वंशज भगीरथ ने घोर तपस्या कर माता गंगा को प्रसन्न किया और धरती पर लेकर आए । गंगा के स्पर्श से ही सगर के 60 हजार पुत्रों का उद्धार संभव हो सका इसी कारण गंगा का दूसरा नाम भागीरथी पड़ा |

Importance of Ganga Jayanti
Shri Ganga Saptami (Ganga Jayanti) is on Tuesday, 14 May 2024.
Ganga Jayanti is a major festival of Hindus. Ganga ji was born on the auspicious day of Vaishakh Shukla Saptami, hence this holy date is celebrated as Ganga Jayanti.
Taking bath in the Ganga on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Jayanti gives sattvikta and virtuous benefits. The day of Vaishakh Shukla Saptami is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm all over India. This date is the festival of arrival of the holy river Ganga on earth. Ganga Jayanti. Ganga birth story
River Ganga is the center of faith of Hindus and the importance of Ganga is described in many religious texts. There are many mythological stories associated with the river Ganga which helps in defining the complete meaning of Ganga. According to one story, Ganga was born from the sweat drops of the feet of Lord Vishnu. Apart from the stories of Ganga’s birth, there are other stories as well. According to which Ganga was born from the Kamandal of Brahmadev.
There is a belief that after freeing the world from the demon sacrifice in the form of Vamana, Brahmadev washed the feet of Lord Vishnu and filled this water in his kamandalu and according to another story, when Lord Shiva appeared before Narad Muni, Brahmadev and Lord Vishnu. According to the scriptures, on the Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Baishakh month, Ganga reached Shiva Shankar’s hair from heaven, hence this day is celebrated as Ganga Jayanti and Ganga Saptami. The day on which Ganga ji was born is known as Ganga Jayanti (Vaishakh Shukla Saptami) and the day on which Ganga ji descended on earth is known as ‘Ganga Dussehra’ (Jyestha Shukla Dashami). Mother Ganga is worshiped on this day. | Worshiping and bathing in Ganga on the day of Ganga Jayanti brings prosperity, fame and respect and all sins are destroyed. It is believed that people suffering from Manglik Dosh get special benefits by worshiping Ganga on this day. Worshiping Ganga as per the rituals is fruitful.
According to the Puranas, Ganga originated from the thumb of Vishnu, who had descended on earth due to the efforts of Bhagiratha to save the ashes of 60,000 sons of King Sagar who were burnt to ashes by the curse of Kapil Muni. Then, for their salvation, Bhagiratha, a descendant of King Sagar, came to save them. He pleased Mother Ganga by doing severe penance and brought her to earth. It was only through the touch of Ganga that the salvation of Sagar’s 60 thousand sons was possible, hence another name of Ganga was Bhagirathi.
