पका आम बहुत ही पौष्टिक होता है | इसमें प्रोटीन,विटामिन व खनिज पदार्थ, कार्बोहाइड्रेट तथा शर्करा विपुल मात्रा में होते हैं |
आम मीठा, चिकना, शौच साफ़ लानेवाला, तृप्तिदायक, ह्रदय को बलप्रद, वीर्य की शुद्धि तथा वृद्धि करनेवाला है | यह वायु व पित्त नाशक परंतु कफकारक है तथा कांतिवर्धक, रक्त की शुद्धि करनेवाला एवं भूख बढ़ानेवाला है | इसके नियमित सेवन से रोगप्रतिकारक शक्ति बढती है |
शुक्रप्रमेह आदि विकारों के कारण जिनको संतानोत्पत्ति न होती हो, उनके लिए पका आम लाभकारक है | कलमी आम की अपेक्षा देशी आम जल्दी पचनेवाला, त्रिदोषशामक व विशेष गुणयुक्त है | रेशासहित, मीठा, पतली या छोटी गुठलीवाला आम उत्तम माना जाता है | यह आमाशय, यकृत, फेफड़ों के रोग तथा अल्सर, रक्ताल्पता आदि में लाभ पहुँचाता है | इसके सेवन से रक्त,मांस आदि सप्तधातुओं तथा वासा की वृद्धि और हड्डियों का पोषण होता है | यूनानी डॉक्टरों के मतानुसार पका आम आलस्य दूर करता है, मूत्र साफ़ लाता है, क्षयरोग (टी.बी.)मिटाता है तथा गुर्दें व मूत्राशय के लिए शक्तिदायक है |

औषधि-प्रयोग
भूखवृद्धि : आम के रस में घी और सौंठ डालकर सेवन करने से जठराग्नि प्रदीप्त होता है | वायु रोग या पाचनतंत्र की दुर्बलता : आम के रस में अदरक मिलाकर लेना हितकारी है |
शहद के साथ पके आम के सेवन से प्लीहा, वायु और कफ के दोष तथा क्षयरोग दूर होता है |
आम का पना : केरी (कच्चा आम ) को पानी में उबालें अथवा गोबर के कंडे की आग में दबा दें | भुन जाने पर छिलका उतार दें और गूदा मथकर उसमें गुड, जीरा, धनिया, काली मिर्च तथा नमक मिलाकर दोबारा मथें | आवश्यकता अनुसार पानी मिलायें और पियें |
लू लगने पर : उपरोक्त आम का पना एक-एक कप दिन में २ – ३ बार पियें |
भुने हुए कच्चे आम के गूदेको पैरों के तलवों पर लगाने से भी लू से राहत मिलती है |
वजन बढ़ाने के लिए : पके और मीठे आम नियमित रूप से खाने से दुबले – पतले व्यक्ति का वजन बढ़ सकता है |
दस्त में रक्त आने पर : छाछ में आम की गुठली का २ से ३ ग्राम चूर्ण मिलाकर पीने से लाभ होता है |
पेट के कीड़े : सुबह चौथाई चम्मच आम की गुठलियों का चूर्ण गर्म पानी के साथ लेने से पेट के कीड़े मर जाते है |
प्रदर रोग : आम की गुठली का २ से ३ ग्राम चूर्ण शहद के साथ चाटने से रक्त-प्रदर में लाभ होता है |
दाँतों के रोग : आम के पत्तों को खूब चबा-चबाकर थूकते रहने से कुछ ही दोनों में दाँतों का हिलना और मसूड़ों से खून आना बंद हो जाता है | आम की गुठली की गिरी के महीन चूर्ण का मंजन करने से पायरिया ठीक होता है |
घमौरियाँ : आम की गुठली के चूर्ण से स्नान करने से घमौरियाँ दूर होती है |
पुष्ट और सुडौल शरीर : यदि एक वक्त के आहार में सुबह या शाम केवल आम चूसकर जरा-सा अदरक लें तथा डेढ -दो घंटे के बाद दूध पियें तो ४० दिन में शरीर पुष्ट व सुडौल हो जाता | आम और दूध एक साथ खाना आयुर्वेद की दृष्टि से विरुद्ध आहार है | इससे आगे चलकर चमड़ी के रोग होते हैं |
सावधानी : खाने के पहले आम को पानी में रखना चाहिए | इससे उसकी गर्मी निकल जाती है | भूखे पेट आम नहीं खाना चाहिए | अधिक आम खाने से गैस बनती है और पेट के विकार पैदा होते हैं | कच्चा, खट्टा तथा अति पका हुआ आम खाने से लाभ के बजाय हानि हो सकती है | कच्चे आम के सीधे सेवन से कब्ज व मंदाग्नि हो सकती है |
बाजार में बिकनेवाला डिब्बाबंद आम का रस स्वास्थ्य के लिए हितकारी नहीं होता है | लम्बे समय तक रखा हुआ बासी रस वायुकारक, पचने में भारी एवं ह्रदय के लिए अहितकर है |

Strong and healthy mango in summer
Ripe mango is very nutritious. It contains abundant amounts of proteins, vitamins and minerals, carbohydrates and sugars.
Mango is sweet, smooth, cleans the stool, gives satisfaction, strengthens the heart, purifies and increases semen. It eliminates gas and bile but causes phlegm and is a glow enhancer, blood purifier and appetite enhancer. Its regular consumption increases the immune power.
Ripe mango is beneficial for those who are not able to have children due to disorders like spermorrhea etc. Compared to grafted mango, local mango is more easily digestible, relieves tridosha and has special properties. Mango with fibre, sweet, thin or small stone is considered best. It is beneficial in stomach, liver, lung diseases, ulcers, anemia etc. Its consumption leads to growth of blood, flesh etc. Saptadhatus and Vasa and nourishment of bones. According to Unani doctors, ripe mango removes laziness, cleans urine, cures Tuberculosis (T.B.) and is beneficial for kidneys and bladder.

Increases appetite: Consuming mango juice mixed with ghee and dry ginger stimulates gastric fire. Air disease or weakness of digestive system: Taking ginger mixed with mango juice is beneficial.

Mango Pana: Boil Keri (raw mango) in water or bury it in the fire of cow dung cake. Once roasted, remove the peel and churn the pulp, add jaggery, cumin, coriander, black pepper and salt to it and churn again. Mix water as per requirement and drink.
In case of heatstroke: Drink one cup of the above mango juice 2-3 times a day.
Applying roasted raw mango pulp on the soles of the feet also provides relief from heatstroke.
To gain weight: Eating ripe and sweet mangoes regularly can increase the weight of a thin person.
In case of blood in diarrhea: Mixing 2 to 3 grams of mango seed powder in buttermilk and drinking it is beneficial.
Stomach worms: Taking quarter teaspoon of mango seed powder with hot water in the morning kills stomach worms.
Leucorrhea: Licking 2 to 3 grams of mango seed powder with honey is beneficial in leucorrhoea.
Dental diseases: Chewing mango leaves and spitting them regularly stops loose teeth and bleeding gums. Pyorrhea is cured by brushing with fine powder of mango kernel.
Heat rash: Taking bath with mango seed powder relieves heat rash.
Strong and well-shaped body: If you suck a mango in the morning or evening and take a little ginger in your diet and drink milk after one and a half to two hours, then the body will become strong and well-shaped in 40 days. Eating mango and milk together is against the diet from the point of view of Ayurveda. This later leads to skin diseases.
Caution: Mango should be kept in water before eating. This releases its heat. Mango should not be eaten on an empty stomach. Eating too much mango produces gas and causes stomach disorders. Eating raw, sour and overripe mangoes can cause harm instead of benefits. Direct consumption of raw mango can cause constipation and dysentery.
Canned mango juice sold in the market is not beneficial for health. Stale juice kept for a long time is flatulent, heavy to digest and harmful for the heart.
