The spirit of patriotism and pride was palpable at Nalanda University in Rajgir on January 26, 2025, as the institution celebrated the 76th Republic Day. This grand event, which saw the participation of faculty, students, and staff, was a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Constitution and the sacrifices made by countless heroes for the nation’s freedom. The day served as a reminder of the importance of democracy, unity, and education in shaping the future of India, echoing the vision of the university as a beacon of knowledge and cultural diversity.

The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Vice-Chancellor (I.), Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh, followed by the National Anthem, filling the atmosphere with pride and unity. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Singh highlighted the enduring relevance of the Indian Constitution and its role as a guiding framework for governance and human civilization.

In his inspiring address, Prof. Singh remarked, “Our Constitution is not just a political document but a charter for human civilization. Its intrinsic spirit, rooted in ethical objectives and humane ideals, has stood the test of time, shaping our nation’s destiny.” He further emphasized the vital connection between knowledge and nation-building, stating, “Institutions like Nalanda University must serve as beacons of light, reminding the world of the power of knowledge, empathy and global harmony. A well-educated society is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy.”

Prof. Singh also called upon the youth, saying:, “The youth of today must see themselves not only as inheritors of our great democratic tradition but as the architects of a brighter, more equitable future. Their resolve, innovation and spirit will define the India of tomorrow.”

The program featured a vibrant array of cultural activities by students representing over 20 nationalities. These performances beautifully showcased not only the rich heritage and diversity of India but also the unique cultural identities of the student communities. Several achievements of the university were highlighted, including the global participation of students and faculty in international conferences, research projects, and academic collaborations.

Prof. Singh proudly mentioned, “Nalanda University has made significant strides in academia, with 68 international participations, 38 publications, and collaborative projects with prestigious institutions worldwide. Our students and faculty are our pride, as they carry forward the legacy of excellence that this institution stands for.”

The celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks, reiterating the commitment of Nalanda University to uphold the values of democracy, equality, and knowledge dissemination. The occasion reminded everyone of their shared responsibility in contributing to the nation’s progress and preserving its rich cultural heritage.
