Rajgir, Nalanda, January 28, 2026 – Nalanda University hosted a Bihar-centric Kathak performance by Smt. Swati Sinha and her eight-member ensemble at Sushma Swaraj Auditorium, in collaboration with ICCR Regional Office Patna. Ms. Swadha Rizvi, Regional Director (Bihar & Jharkhand), ICCR, coordinated the event.
The production traced Bihar’s civilisational journey through Kathak, from rivers like Ganga, Son, and Gandak, to ancient knowledge centres Nalanda and Vikramshila. It covered migration, struggle, resilience, and Bihar’s role in India’s freedom movement, ending with a vision of heritage continuity. Smt. Swati Sinha, Patna-born and Delhi-based disciple of Pt. Rajendra Gangani, a Doordarshan ‘A’ grade artist, has performed across India and abroad via ICCR tours. The event drew Nalanda’s international students, supporting intercultural engagement.

Nalanda University Celebrates 77th Republic Day

Rajgir, Nalanda, Bihar, January 27, 2026 – Nalanda University marked the 77th Republic Day with flag hoisting by Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, who addressed students, faculty, and staff on constitutional ideals and India’s democratic traditions. He linked the Ashok Chakra to progress, noted Bihar’s democratic legacy from Lichchhavi to Vaishali, and highlighted 150th anniversaries of Vande Mataram and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Professor Chaturvedi discussed global challenges like climate change and AI, urging the “Nalanda Spirit” of dialogue, ethics, and sustainability. International students from Indonesia, Bhutan, Kenya, and India performed cultural items. Celebrations included a pledge to constitutional values and inauguration of Annual Sports Fest 2026 under Sahbhagita, with neighbouring school students attending the cricket ground opener for community ties.
