Nalanda University Hosts International Conference on India–Vietnam Buddhist Heritage

Rajgir, Nalanda (10 October 2025): Nalanda University hosted the International Conference on India–Vietnam Buddhist Heritage: Retrospect and Prospects on its historic campus in Rajgir, Bihar, from 10th to 11th October 2025. The conference was jointly inaugurated by Ambassador Ranjeet Rae and Tran Thanh Tung, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Vietnam in India.

The two-day conference has been organized by Nalanda University, in collaboration with the Buddhist Women Research Center and the Vietnam Buddhist Research Institute, bringing together a distinguished gathering of scholars, researchers, monks and delegates from India and Vietnam, along with few other countries.

This is the second major international conference organized by Nalanda University within a month, following the successful hosting of the East Asia Summit for Higher Education Institutions in September 2025.

The inaugural session, held at the Sushma Swaraj Auditorium, commenced with a warm welcome to all the delegates, guests and participants.

The opening day witnessed insightful exchanges highlighting the enduring significance of Buddhist heritage in strengthening dialogue, scholarship and mutual understanding. Such event also highlights Nalanda’s ongoing endeavour to serve as a meeting point for global academic collaboration and cultural interaction rooted in the values of peace and compassion.

Over the course of the conference, the delegates will engage in thematic discussions and paper presentations on Buddhist heritage, cultural diplomacy, peacebuilding and the relevance of Buddhist philosophy in the contemporary world.

The deliberations aim to encourage research partnerships and foster appreciation of the historical links between India and Vietnam through Buddhism’s unifying message of coexistence and mutual respect.

This international gathering reflects how timeless wisdom continues to guide meaningful connections between people and cultures. By hosting such global dialogues, Nalanda University carries forward the spirit of its ancient legacy, creating spaces for understanding, friendship, and shared learning that connect Asia’s past with the hopes and possibilities of our present world.
