आध्यात्मिक कोष भरने का काल – चतुर्मास

देवशयनी एकादशी से देवउठी एकादशी तक के ४ महीने भगवान नारायण ध्यानमग्न रहते हैं । अत: ये मास सनातन धर्म के प्रेमी लोगों के बीच आराधना-उपासना के लिए विशेष महत्त्वपूर्ण माने जाते हैं । चतुर्मास में अन्न, जल, दूध, दही, घी, मट्ठा व गौ का दान तथा वेदपाठ, हवन आदि महान फल देते हैं ।
स्कंद पुराण ( ब्राह्म खंड, चातुर्मास्य माहात्म्य : ३.११) में लिखा हैं :
सद्धर्म: सत्कथा चैव सत्सेवा दर्शनं सताम ।
विष्णुपूजा रतिर्दाने चातुर्मास्यसुदुर्लभा ।।
सद्धर्म (सत्कर्म), सत्कथा, सत्पुरुषों की सेवा, संतों का दर्शन-सत्संग, भगवान का पूजन और दान में अनुराग – ये सब बातें चौमासे में दुर्लभ बतायी गयी हैं ।

चतुर्मास में करणीय
चतुर्मास में प्रतिदिन सुबह नक्षत्र दिखे उसी समय उठ जाय और नक्षत्र-दर्शन करे । इन दिनों २४ घंटे में एक बार भोजन करनेवाले व्यक्ति को अग्निष्टोम यज्ञ का फल मिल जाता है । यज्ञ में जो आहुति दे सकें सात्विक भोजन की, वैसा ही यज्ञोचित भोजन करें । ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करें । चतुर्मास में पलाश की पत्तल पर भोजन बड़े-बड़े पातकों का नाशक है, ब्रह्मभाव को प्राप्त करनेवाला होता है । वटवृक्ष के पत्तों या पत्तल पर भोजन करना भी पुण्यदायी कहा गया है । पुरे चतुर्मास में पलाश की पत्तल पर भोजन करें तो धनवान, रूपवान और मान योग्य व्यक्ति बन जायेगा ।

पंचगव्य का शरीर के सभी रोगों और पापों को मिटाने तथा प्रसन्नता देने में बड़ा प्रभाव है । चातुर्मास में केवल दूध पर रहनेवाले को साधन-भजन में बड़ा बल मिलता है अथवा केवल फल-सेवन बड़े-बड़े पापों को नष्ट करता है ।

इस समय पित्त-प्रकोप होता है । गुलकंद या त्रिफला का सेवन, मुलतानी मिट्टी से स्नान, दूध पीना पित्त-शमन करता है । हवन आदि में यदि तिल-चावल की आहुति देते हैं तो आप निरोग हो जाते हैं ।

चतुर्मास में त्यागने योग्य
चतुर्मास में गुड़ व भोग-सामग्री का त्याग कर देना चाहिए । जो दही का त्याग करता है उसको गोलोक की प्राप्ति होती है । नमक का त्याग कर सकें तो अच्छा है । परनिंदा त्यागने की बहुत प्रशंसा शास्त्रों में लिखी है । चतुर्मास में परनिंदा महापाप है, महाभय को देनेवाली है । इन ४ महीनों में शादी और सकाम यज्ञ, कर्म आदि करना मना है ।

आध्यात्मिक कोष अवश्य भरें
चतुर्मास में बादल, बरसात की रिमझिम, प्राकृतिक सौंदर्य का लहलहाना यह सब साधन-भजनवर्धक है, उत्साहवर्धक है । अत: तपस्या, साधन-भजन करने का यह मौका चूकना नहीं चाहिए । अपनी योग्यता के अनुसार व्यक्ति कोई-न-कोई छोटा-बड़ा नियम ले सकता है । इन दिनों ज्यादा भूख नहीं लगती । उपवास, ध्यान, जप, शांति, आनंद, मौन, भगवत्स्मृति,सात्विक खुराक, स्नान-दान ये विशेष हितकारी, पुण्यदायी, साफल्यदायी है । चतुर्मास में संकल्प कर लें कि ८ महीने तो संसार का धंधा-व्यवहार करते हैं, सर्दी में शरीर की तंदुरुस्ती और दिनों में धन का कोष भरा जाता है किंतु इन ४ महीनों में साधना का खजाना, आध्यात्मिक कोष भरेंगे ।
