Rajgir, Nalanda, Bihar: Nalanda University observed the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday (June 21, 2026) with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, officers, staff members and members of the local community. The event reflected a collective commitment to health, mindfulness and holistic well-being under this year’s global theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi and Lt. Gen. Sandeep Singh, Commandant, Officers Training Academy, Gaya, attended the programme along with Deans, faculty members, staff and Indian and international students. Participants joined the yoga session in a spirit of unity and wellness.
In his address, Professor Chaturvedi spoke about the deeper understanding of ageing, stating that it should not be measured only by years or physical parameters. He said that a university loses its youthfulness when it loses the spirit of inquiry and curiosity.
Emphasising the importance of self-discovery, he said curiosity remains central to human growth, learning and intellectual development. He linked yoga with introspection, continuous learning and the pursuit of inner awareness.
Referring to Acharya Nagarjuna, the Vice Chancellor said yoga should not be viewed merely as a physical exercise but as a spiritual discipline that enables individuals to rediscover themselves and understand the many dimensions of existence. He noted that Nagarjuna’s philosophical contributions, particularly the concept of “emptiness,” continue to inspire intellectual exploration and self-awareness.
He added that the institution seeks to draw from such philosophical traditions and integrate them into contemporary academic understanding and daily practices.

As part of the Sahabhagita Samvad initiatives organised during the International Day of Yoga celebrations, winners of the Yoga Spardha Kaushal activities held a day earlier were felicitated with medals and certificates. The competition saw the participation of 130 people, including local residents, highlighting strong community engagement and outreach.
The celebration reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting yoga as a pathway to physical fitness, mental balance, lifelong learning and holistic development.
