स्कंद पुराण के अनुसार रविवार के दिन बिल्ववृक्ष का पूजन करना चाहिए। इससे ब्रह्महत्या आदि महापाप भी नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

1. एक बत्ती वाला दीपक : यह एक सामान्य दीपक है जो ईष्टदेव से निवेदन के लिए प्रज्वलित किया जाता है। किसी भी देवी-देवता की पूजा हेतु गाय का शुद्ध घी तथा एक फूल बत्ती या तिल के तेल का दीपक आवश्यक रूप से जलाना चाहिए।
2. दो बत्ती वाला दीप : भगवती जगदंबा दुर्गा देवी की आराधना के समय एवं माता सरस्वती की आराधना के समय तथा शिक्षा-प्राप्ति के लिए दो मुखों वाला दीपक जलाना चाहिए।
3. तीन बत्तियों वाला घी का दीपक : गणेश भगवान की कृपा पाने के लिए रोजाना तीन बत्तियों वाला घी का दीपक जलाना चाहिए।
4. चार मुख वाला सरसों के तेल का दीपक : भैरव देवता को प्रसन्न करने के लिए चार मुख वाला सरसों के तेल का दीपक जलाना चाहिए। इस उपाय को करने से व्यक्ति के जीवन के सभी कष्ट दूर हो जाते हैं।
5. पांच मुखी दीपक : किसी केस या मुकदमे को जीतने के लिए भगवान के आगे पांच मुखी दीपक जलाना चाहिए। इससे कार्तिकेय भगवान प्रसन्न होते हैं।
6. सात मुखी दीपक : माता लक्ष्मी की कृपा हमेशा घर पर बनी रहे, इसके लिए हमें उनके समक्ष सात मुख वाला दीपक जलाना चाहिए। दीपावली पर यह कार्य अवश्य कीजिए।
7. आठ या बारह मुख वाला दीपक : शिव भगवान को प्रसन्न करने के लिए घी या सरसों के तेल का आठ या बारह मुख वाला दीपक जलाना चाहिए।
8. दशमुख वाला दीपक : दशावतार की पूजा हेतु दशमुख वाला दीपक जलाएं।
9. सोलह बत्तियों का दीपक : विष्णु भगवान को प्रसन्न करने के लिए इनके समक्ष रोजाना सोलह बत्तियों का दीपक जलाना चाहिए।

अन्य 10 तरह के दीपक :

1. आटे का दीपक : किसी भी प्रकार की साधना या सिद्धि हेतु आटे का दीपक बनाते हैं और इसे ही पूजा करने के लिए सबसे उत्तम मानते हैं।
2. घी का दीपक : आर्थिक तंगी से मुक्ति पाने के लिए रोजाना घर के देवालय में शुद्ध घी का दीपक जलाना चाहिए। इससे देवी-देवता भी प्रसन्न होते हैं। आश्रम तथा देवालय में अखंड ज्योत जलाने के लिए भी शुद्ध गाय के घी का या तिल के तेल का उपयोग किया जाता है।
3. सरसों के तेल का दीपक : शत्रुओं से बचने के लिए भैरवजी के यहां सरसों के तेल का दीपक जलाना चाहिए। सूर्यदेव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए भी सरसों का दीपक जलाते हैं।
4. तिल के तेल का दीपक : शनि ग्रह की आपदा से मुक्ति हेतु तिल के तेल का दीपक जलाना चाहिए। इससे देवी-देवता भी प्रसन्न होते हैं।
5. महूए के तेल का दीपक : पति की लंबी आयु की मनोकामना को पूर्ण करने के लिए घर के मंदिर में महुए के तेल का दीपक जलाना चाहिए।
6. अलसी के तेल का दीपक : राहु और केतु ग्रहों की दशा को शांत करने के लिए अलसी के तेल का दीपक जलाना चाहिए।
7. चमेली के तेल से भरा तिकोना दीपक : संकटहरण हनुमानजी की पूजा करने के लिए तथा उनकी कृपा आप पर सदैव बनी रहे, इसके लिए तीन कोनों वाला दीपक जलाना चाहिए। 8 गहरा और गोल दीपक : ईष्ट सिद्धि के लिए या ज्ञान प्राप्त करने के लिए एक गहरा और गोल दीपक प्रज्वलित करें।
